Best packing snow of the year

It has been a whirlwind of a weather week here in Connecticut. It was nearly 60 degrees on Wednesday followed by over a foot of snow on Thursday with temperatures that fell to 5 degrees when we woke up on Friday. Today reached 45 which yielded the best packing snow we have seen in a long time.

Evidence of this can be seen in our six foot tall snow man. He was rolled up and stacked in less than 30 minutes by #2 and I. All three kids and Jamie got into the action by the time all was said and done.

The weather folks say more snow is on its way for tomorrow. Guess winter finally decided to show after all. Now it’s time to take bets on how long winter will allow our new snow friends to stick around!

Living in New England

Living in Connecticut offers the ability to reach a wide variety of places within a quick car ride. We like to take advantage of this by visiting places like lakes in upstate New York, the beaches in Maine or Rhode Island and skiing in Vermont.

#2 and I got up early last Saturday and ran up to Stratton, Vermont to ski for the day. He has really gotten into skiing this year and thought it was awesome that we could wake up and be on the slopes just after the lifts started turning at 9:00am.

It was a tad cold and he only wanted to ride the gondola to the top each time so that we could ski top to bottom on his favorite run. That kept our total run count down but we had a blast nonetheless.

Stratton is a great place to ski and it also offers a nice little village where you can eat and shop should you need a break. We certainly had a great time and appreciate that we could run up there for the day. I know #2 wants to go back as soon as this weekend!
