Bike riding in February?

It’s February in New England. Kids are supposed to be sled riding not bike riding! That hasn’t been the case this week and today was no exception since the temperature was nearly 65 degrees.

This warm patch of weather caused the kids to raid the shed for all their spring and summer outdoor toys. The most popular toy at the moment is their bikes. Jamie and I were shocked to find that #3 took it upon herself to declare that the age of training wheels were dead. How could we argue against such determination? Jamie removed the training wheels as requested.

Lo and behold, she got right on and rode that bike like a pro! I wasn’t around for the maiden voyage but I got to see her expertise first hand this afternoon.

She is a pro! She also keeps right up there with her brother, sister and all the neighborhood kids which we know was her motivation.

I think this is the first of many things we are going to witness where her determination to keep up with her siblings or peers is going to surprise us. We just hope she doesn’t grow up too fast!

Best packing snow of the year

It has been a whirlwind of a weather week here in Connecticut. It was nearly 60 degrees on Wednesday followed by over a foot of snow on Thursday with temperatures that fell to 5 degrees when we woke up on Friday. Today reached 45 which yielded the best packing snow we have seen in a long time.

Evidence of this can be seen in our six foot tall snow man. He was rolled up and stacked in less than 30 minutes by #2 and I. All three kids and Jamie got into the action by the time all was said and done.

The weather folks say more snow is on its way for tomorrow. Guess winter finally decided to show after all. Now it’s time to take bets on how long winter will allow our new snow friends to stick around!

Life Observations… Water Balloons

File this under useless information and or the equivalent of a random thought but I had an epiphany of sorts this evening while filling a few dozen water balloons for my daughters field day tomorrow. What did I discover? The darker the balloon color the less likely it is to break. After busting several of them, I can safely say that pink was the weakest (no offense to those that associate pink with a gender by the way) and that the red was the strongest. Therefore, if you want to win a water balloon toss, grab the darkest balloon in the bucket.

Told you this was useless and random. Dear kids, my apologies that your Dad is a weirdo.
